March 25, 2010 - Budget proposals from Albany NY are all in favor of closing the two Visitor Interpretation Centers run by the Adirondack Park Agency.

The Visitor Interpretation Centers (VICs) are a free resource for visitors to the Adirondacks with engaging exhibits, programs and trails open for use.

The unanimous decision to close the centers was put forth by the Senate and Assembly budget proposals. The proposals would restore the closings of state parks and historical sites that was proposed by Gov. David Patterson, and also put millions of dollars back into the Environmental Protection Fund for attainment of open space land.

Though there are three competing budget proposals, all of them close the two Visitor Interpretation Centers to close are in Newcomb and Paul Smiths. With the closings, 10 APA jobs will be lost and two positions in Ray Brook would be eliminated.
