Sawyer Mountain

Route 28 Indian Lake, NY 12842
view from a mountain summit on a sunny day

Overview

Sawyer Mountain is located on Route 28 between the towns of Blue Mountain Lake and Indian Lake. The hike is 2.2 miles round trip and the summit can be reached in about an hour.

The trail on Sawyer Mountain has an elevation gain of about 650 feet. Starting at the mountain's trailhead, you'll find a trail register and a single-track trail with yellow markers to guide you on your way.

Overall, the climb is moderate with a few short, steep segments. Keep in mind that about a quarter mile up the trail there is a spot that can get muddy, so stay right and follow the trail markers. There are a couple of viewpoints along the way that offer stunning panoramas of the surrounding mountains. At the second lookout, the trail ends, so you can take some photos and then head back down the way you came.

Dogs are welcome on this trail!
