Warrensburgh Museum of Local History

WARRENSBURG NY - After nearly a decade of silence (over seven years), the Warrensburgh Museum of Local History reopened in July 2009 for a new era of business.

Visitors can again come and explore the wonders of their past at the museum during summer hours on Saturday from 10 am - 4pm, Wednesday from 1pm - 4 pm and Sunday from 12pm - 3 pm. For hours during other seasons, call the museum at (518) 623-2928.

Admission is always free! The museum is located at 3754 Main Street, Warrensburg, NY. It's on the 1st floor of the VFW building (used to be Odd Fellows Hall) just north of Potter's Diner. The main entrance, with full handicap accessibility, is at rear of building.

Visitors can browse Warrensburg’s rich industrial and political history, from pre-settlement through its establishment as a town in 1813, and to the present, represented in photos, maps and artifacts.  Descriptive text guides visitors from one period to the next.

Originally founded in 1975 by the late Isabel Cornell with the support of the Historical Society and the Town of Warrensburg, the museum became a repository for early photographs, documents, period clothing, household furniture and farm tools – all provided by local residents.  Over the years during which the original Society became dormant, the collection languished and public interest waned.  In 2004, at the invitation of the Town, the newly reorganized Warrensburgh Historical Society became involved with its overhaul.

The Warrensburgh Historical Society has spent the last five years reorganizing the entire collection and creating all new exhibits. The Museum space has been fully renovated by the Town of Warrensburg, including wheelchair access.

Help support the Warrensburgh Historical Society by becoming a member!  Members receive the Warrensburgh Historical Society Quarterly, the organization's fascinating newsletter, and a calendar each year decorated with photos and memoirs of years past. Membership prices vary, and checks can be sent to the Warrensburgh Historical Society, PO Box 441, Warrensburgh, NY 12885.
