What's New In the Adirondacks

May 2012 Archives

Memorial Day has come and gone, but our country's recognition and admiration for our troops lasts for more than just one day.  The Adirondack Museum exemplifies this statement, as it announces that it will be offering free admission to active military duty and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2012.

'Choose Your Path' to Bring Health and Happiness to Children in Need

It's not everyday you're given the opportunity to forget life's challenges- but for one week at Double H, this is exactly what happens! In the fresh air of the Adirondacks, children with life-threatening medical conditions get the chance to enjoy life as it was meant to be.

This week the Double H Ranch kicked-off the 'Choose Your Path' appeal- a 6-week online fundraising challenge to support the various summer programs our campers look forward to throughout the year. These programs bring much-needed laughter and excitement to children who are living with medical challenges, and gives them a magical experience that can change their lives forever.

Our campers only get one childhood, so let's do what we can to make this one count! At Double H, we're all the same. And it's the power of your donation that makes this magic come to life.

Oh, you've heard it said both ways. You've heard people appear to be the authority on whether to pronounce Schroon as 'SKroon' or 'SHroon' haven't you? I certainly have!

Since I don't live in Schroon Lake, I thought the best way to clear things up and get a definitive answer on how to pronounce Schroon Lake would be to contact the locals. So I did.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation recently launched an "If You Care, Leave It There" campaign, encouraging people to not disturb baby animals.  Tempting as it may be to approach newborn wildlife,  you could ultimately harm the animal.
You've heard of rubber duck races, (check out the annual Kiwanis Fundraiser in Glens Falls) but a rubber loon race? Now that's something that only the Adirondacks would have.
This season the Adirondack Museum will be featuring a new tour that will give visitors a new experience that they won't forget. A new audio tour is being introduced this season for visitors to enjoy.
