Since 2012, the Saratoga & North Creek Railway has operated a Snow Train throughout the winter so skiers could have an easy means of transportation to Gore Mountain. Due to lackluster ridership, though, the railway has made the difficult decision to eliminate the Snow Train, at least until March.

In June, the Department of Environmental Conservation released a draft of the Essex Chain Lakes Complex Unit Management Plan (UMP) that called for an expansion of recreational opportunities on 19,600 acres of lands and waters in the Central Adirondacks. Last month, the Adirondack Park Agency (APA) approved the plan, but many environmental groups and opponents are pushing back.

The 2016 Saranac Lake Winter Carnival will take place on February 5-14 with a "Superheroes and Villains" theme. Want to be part of the festivities? The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Committee is now accepting vendor applications!
