What's New In the Adirondacks

New Cafes and a Distillery Coming to the Adirondacks

The Adirondacks have a lot to offer: hiking, skiing, spectacular wildlife, and some of the best resorts and restaurants in the northeast. Two cafes and a distillery are adding to the attractions in 2017.

Sugar Shack in Lake Placid is now under new ownership, Port Henry welcomes the brand new Cake Shop and Cafe, and WhistlePig Rye Whiskey moves forward with plans for a storage and aging facility in Mineville.

WhistlePig is moving forward with plans to store and age their rye whiskey at the Moriah Business Park according to the Sun Community Times. The company is expected to receive Adirondack Park Agency approval as soon as a stormwater drainage plan is submitted.

The Business Park was pre-approved as an industrial site in 2005. APA Deputy Director of Regulatory Programs Rick Weber told the Sun Community Times, "We see that it is consistent with the original plans and there are no significant environmental review concerns".

The facility is expected to create 10-15 new jobs in town and the firm expects bottling and distilling to be possible at the Mineville location by 2019.

Cake Shop and Cafe in Port Henry, NY

Cake Shop and Cafe, located on Main Street in Port Henry, will be open 8 am - 2 pm Thursday - Sunday. The shop's owner Heather Curran will be serving a variety of homemade foods and goodies, including bagels, breakfast sandwiches, muffins, cupcakes, cakes, and pies.

The cafe will also be open for cupcake classes and birthday parties, including packages with Penelope the Clown.

Curran, a member of the Air National Guard, told the Sun Community News, "I always wanted to open my own business. My family is working with me and it is happening." The shop is located in a renovated house at 4286 Main Street.
