Presidents’ Day is this coming Monday, and if you haven’t gone on a winter vacation in the Adirondacks, now is one of the best times to do so. Winter carnivals are taking place throughout the region, and there are plenty of activities that kids and adults will enjoy. Check out these 13 great events and have fun this Presidents’ Day weekend in the Adirondacks: February 17 – 20.
Adirondack Winter Celebrations
The week-long celebration of snowmobiling and winter in Indian Lake begins this Friday. SnoCade will feature both snowmobiling and non-snowmobiling events, such as tours, races, star gazing, outdoor activities, and more.
Join the communities of Star Lake, Wanakena, and Cranberry Lake for Adirondack White Out Weekend. This winter festival will feature dog sled rides, tons of activities for kids, and much more all weekend long.
Will you be in the Lake George Region this weekend? In addition to the Lake George Winter Carnival, Hague will host their own Winter Weekend. Event highlights include a chili bake-off, live music, raffles, and a polar plunge.
The third weekend of the Lake George Winter Carnival is set to take place this Saturday and Sunday. Although the ice isn’t safe for events, there will still be many activities on land, such as the chowder cook-off, hot chocolate bar, and fireworks.
Visit Raquette Lake for two days of winter fun at their carnival. Some of the events will include youth activities, snow dodgeball, a snowshoe relay, ice golf, and more.
Family-Friendly Fun on the Slopes
Gore Mountain’s Presidents’ Weekend Holiday Camp is the perfect way for kids ages 4-12 to enjoy the start of their mid-February recess. The two-day camp is open to all abilities, and kids will be able to enjoy skiing/riding with new friends and coaches. The cost is $230 per kid, or $285 with rentals included.
Take a trip to Dynamite Hill Recreation Area for their Krazy Downhill Derby this Saturday. During this wacky winter event, homemade sleds will be pushed down the hill, and awards will be given out to the best contraptions.
On Saturday, Oak Mountain Ski Center will host Dummy Big Air, a hilarious event that will involve homemade dummies attached to skis or a snowboard gliding down the hill. You can watch this event or pay a fee to participate with your own dummy.
As part of SnoCade, Indian Lake Central School Gymnasium will host the Wonderland Craft Show on Saturday and Sunday. Stop by and check out all the fantastic goods created by your local artisans.
View Arts Center in Old Forge will host the 11th annual Chili Bowl Luncheon this Saturday. Purchase a beautiful handmade bowl and then fill it with delicious chili from surrounding restaurants.
Additional Free Weekend Activities
Looking for a fun way to spend Presidents’ Day weekend? Participate in the 20th annual Great Backyard Bird Count! This is a worldwide event that aims to create a snapshot of the number and distribution of birds.
Head over to Camp Santanoni for their second free Winter Weekend open house of 2017. Visitors will have access to the camp’s historic properties and be able to view interpretive displays. The camp will be open to cross-country skiers and snowshoers.
The first free fishing weekend of 2017 in New York State will take place this Saturday and Sunday. Both residents and non-residents will be allowed to fish for free on these days.
