The forecast looks pretty good for this weekend, should be sunny and in the 60’s. Great weather for hiking in the Adirondacks!
That said, it might not be warm and sunny on top of a mountain. Conditions change rapidly and gusts of wind can make a 60 degree day feel quite cold when you’re 3,000+ feet up.
Keep packing late winter gear so that you’ll be prepared for anything. There is still ice and snow on the mountains in higher elevations so bring necessary traction devices (snowshoes, spikes, crampons, etc.). Lots of mud and water remains on the trails as snow and ice begins to thaw. Walk through the mud (not around it) so you don’t damage the vegetation alongside the trail.
Construction is in progress on the Rt. 86 bridge over the West Branch of the Ausable River. Whiteface Landing hikers should avoid parking near the bridge due to traffic.
The last 3 miles of Corey’s Road in Saranac Lake remains closed.
Seasonal gates and barriers at the Raquette Falls trailhead, Elk Lake Road, and South Meadow Lane, are all in place until the end of mud season.
