NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery has found a new home at 85 Main Street, in the heart of historic Saranac Lake.  The gallery is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year and its beckoning new space is now home to eight artists: Heidi Gutersloh, returning artist Shawn Halperin, Catherine Hartung, Russ Hartung, returning artist Mary Woodcock Johnson, Lee Ann Sporn, Susan Whiteman and Ed Williams.

NorthWind’s fine artists work in a variety of mediums and have a wide range of styles.  Their photographers have distinctively different approaches to their work.

Heidi Gutersloh’s oil paintings are based on realism, and include pet portraits, landscapes, florals and still life pieces.

Shawn Halperin is a mixed media artist that creates with wood, bark, metal and canvas. Her jewelry collection combines birch, sterling silver & bronze into lovely hearts, dragonflies and chickadees.  Her cedar bird carving and wall pieces are also on exhibit.

Catherine Hartung’s bold and beautiful art depicts flowers, butterflies, wilderness areas and abstract concepts.

Russ Hartung’s photography reflects his love of hiking in the Adirondacks, and his sweeping landscape vistas are stunning examples of our wilderness areas.

Mary Woodcock Johnson’s oil and watercolor paintings include street scenes of Saranac Lake and surrounding areas. Recently she has painted the wildlife, birds and flowers seen while walking local trails.

Lee Ann Sporn’s soft colored pencil and charcoal drawings and her oil and mixed media paintings reflect her background in biology. Her subjects include birds, fish, amphibians, mammals, and some abstract work based on loose interpretations of both the landscape and microscopic views.

Susan Whiteman’s luminous plein air and studio paintings capture the Adirondack landscape and surrounding farmland.  They are done in pastel, oil, and watercolor.

Ed Williams is known for his distinctive digital manipulations of his photographs. His minimalist’s approach to forests, loons and other wildlife are often represented by elegant black and white images.

Examples of NorthWind’s artists’ work and links to their individual websites can be found at along with gallery hours and a map of their location.
