Village of Lake Placid: The Village of Lake Placid was incorporated in 1900. Town Hall is located at 2693 Main Street, Lake Placid. The phone number is (518) 523-2597 and the Mayor is Art Devlin.

Town of North Elba: The town was established in 1849. Under the North Elba Park District, the town operates the Craig Wood Golf Course, Lake Placid Airport, and the Mirror Lake toboggan chute. The Town Hall address is 2693 Main Street, Lake Placid (same as the Village of Lake Placid). Please call (518) 523-9516 for more information. The Town Supervisor is Derek Doty.

Water Supply: Situated on the shores of Lake Placid, the water system is owned and operated by the Village and is pumped from Lake Placid via a pumping station and treatment plant.

Electricity: The Lake Placid Village Municipal Electric Department supplies the distribution of electricity through the area. The substation allows for expanded use of electricity purchased from the Power Authority of New York State.

Fire Protection: The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1905. It is the only department in the county on a 24-hour basis. It is located at 456 Old Military Road, Lake Placid. Please call the Fire Department Office for more information at (518) 523-3211.

Police: The Lake Placid Police Department was established in 1901 and is located at the Town Hall, Suite 104. The department has 14 members and the Chief of Police is Charles P. Dobson. Please call the Police Office at (518) 523-3306 for more information.

Animal Control: All of the Lake Placid Police Department's sworn officers act as the Village of Lake Placid's animal control officers. All animal-related complaints are dispatched through the Lake Placid Dispatch Center at (518) 523-3306.

The Lake Placid Public Library was established in 1884 as a part of the Clinton-Essex-Franklin Library System. It is a school district library that houses 20,000 volumes including current fiction and non-fiction, movies, e-books, CDs, and more. Library hours are Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. High speed and wireless internet access is available. Call ahead regarding children's storytimes. Public Beach at the south end of Mirror Lake is open during the summer months. Ever popular water skiing may be enjoyed on Lake Placid only. A village ordinance bars use of all powerboats from Mirror Lake.

Lake Placid is located at the northern part of the Village of Lake Placid and covers approximately 2,170 acres and averages about 50ft in depth. The lake is the main source of drinking water for residents and is fed by mountain streams and connects to East Lake and West Lake. Lake Placid provides an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities, including fishing and boating.
