Editor’s Note – December 19, 2016: The Saratoga & North Creek Railway just notified us that the “Pullman Ski Train” has been canceled for this winter season.
Inquiries should be directed to the Saratoga & North Creek Railway at 877-726-7245.
If you want a unique way to get to Gore Mountain this winter, consider checking out the Saratoga & North Creek Railway’s new overnight winter services. You can stay in a sleeper car on the train and receive free shuttle rides to the mountain and other areas in North Creek!
Guests will be able to spend the weekend in sleeper cars at the North Creek Rail Station beginning on January 13th, with three Pullman sleeper cars holding 53 passengers. Those aboard the train can also enjoy a dining car and a bar, as well as additional accommodations once they arrive at the station.
Travelers will board the train at 1pm on Friday in Saratoga, where they’ll head to North Creek to stay in sleeper cars Friday and Saturday night. During the day, they’ll be able to take advantage of a shuttle service to Gore Mountain and the North Creek area. OnSunday, the train heads back to Saratoga.
The North Creek Station is being completely renovated to accommodate this service. It will essentially look like a rustic lodge complete with a bar, shuffleboard games, comfortable couches, and televisions. Guests will be able to relax and socialize after dropping off their skiing equipment to be stored at the station.
This new “snow train” service is a one-of-a-kind experience, as explained by SNCR General Manager Justin Gonyo: “This is a very unique service, something you really can’t get anywhere else in the nation, reminiscent of the old Denver-Rio Grande ski trains out west,” he told the Sun Community News.
Not only will this all inclusive service boost revenue for SNCR, but also commerce in the town of North Creek as well. In fact, the railway is not serving meals on the cars Saturday or Sunday morning, so visitors will be inclined to check out the many available restaurants in the area.
Prices for the trip are expected to be announced soon, with a new website being created just for information about this service. Even if you’re not into skiing, this is a great opportunity to experience a luxury train service while visiting other area attractions in North Creek.
Before the winter service starts in January, those interested in the railway can check out SNCR’s incredibly popular Polar Express Holiday service that starts on November 18th. Railway executives are predicting 30,000 passengers for this ride, and are hiring on extra employees to accommodate them.
