Free Fishing Day, Veterans Day & More Events Happening

Today, November 11, in addition to being Veterans Day is the last Free Fishing Day of the year in New York State. The next Free Fishing Day hasn’t been announced yet by the DEC, but will likely be in February.
Looking Ahead to Thanksgiving
Restaurants are starting to announce Thanksgiving specials, including order-ahead pies and desserts!
Also, registration is open for the annual Adirondack Health 5K Turkey Trot, happening Thanksgiving morning in Lake Placid.

Plan for a Delicious Chicken BBQ Dinner on December 2
When turkey day is done, get ready for chicken, because the Best 4th in the North Committee has announced their annual December Chicken BBQ for December 2 to help raise funds for the Best 4th in the North come July 4. A New Novel Takes Place in the Adirondacks
Back Dirt: A Murder on Skis Mystery takes place in the Adirondacks and involves the killing of an archaeologist. This book came out last month and is written by author Phil Bayly, former news anchor in Albany and avid skier. Find it where books are sold or at murderonskis.com.
Public Cannabis Hearings Set in Lake Placid
Lake Placid News reports that the Lake Placid Village Board will host public hearings for two laws, one to opt out of issuing licenses for retail sites, and one to opt out of on-site consumption of cannabis. The hearings will be held at the beginning of the regularly scheduled November 15 board meeting at 5pm at North Elba Town Hall (and streamed online).
