This weekend, View celebrates 60 years of bringing the arts to the Adirondacks and the grand opening of their new gallery space in Old Forge, NY!
From Thursday, July 7, to this Sunday, July 10, the Gala Weekend Celebration is open at 3273 State Route 28 for the public to enjoy free admission to the gallery, workshops, and many other family art activities!
Last Thursday, the gallery hosted a fundraising dinner to kickoff the gala celebration. Following up on Friday was a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony in the morning at the new building.
On Saturday, July 9, View will be open from 10am-6pm. Visitors can enjoy free workshop demonstrations by skilled artists and over 200 other works of art in the exhibit. At 6pm, there will be a barbecue dinner with a concert by the Fulton Chain Gang (tickets $15).
Sunday is Family Day, and will be full of fun activities for all ages between 12pm-4pm. These include an iron pour workshop demonstration by Joseph Montry, a visit from the Utica ZooMobile, live music by Jim & Bonnie Tracy, clown and face painting, and tie-dye (for a nominal fee).
View’s half-century growth evolved from humble beginnings in the front yard of current director Emerita Miriam Davis Kashiwa. The first Central Adirondack Art Show in 1952 displayed artist’s work on chicken wire fence.
Now, the same Art Show will celebrate its 60th Anniversary in a large LEED-aspiring building with gallery, workshop, classroom, and new performance space. The venue’s geo-thermal heating and cooling, solar panels, and energy-reducing features make it very “green”, and is vying for a silver Leadership in Energyand Environmental Design (LEED) rating.
Following the opening gala, the Central Adirondack Art Show will be on display through August 7. Afterwards, View will host the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors on August 13 through October 2, and Quilts Unlimited from October 8 to November 30.
With the new performance space, View will be expanding its performance schedule to include everything from plays, concerts, and other special events.
View’s regular hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-4pm, and Sunday from noon to 4pm. For more information, contact (315) 369-6411.
