Wakely Mountain Trail has been closed until further notice due to safety concerns with the Wakely Mountain Fire Tower. This trail is located in one of the more remote areas of the central Adirondacks.
The fire tower itself was closed to the public in December of last year due to structural deficiencies. Now, with the condition of the tower having deteriorated further, it’s possible it could collapse in heavy winds so the entire trail is closed. Repairs will be made as soon as possible.
The trail is a 3.2-mile hike to a 3,744-foot summit and is part of the ADK Fire Tower Challenge. The fire tower is 92 feet tall and offers a great view of the West Canada Lakes Wilderness Area to the south and the High Peaks to the north – it’s definitely worth checking out once repairs have been made!
