View a classic Hollywood film on the big screen during the latest installment of Summer Classics @ The Strand. On Monday, August 12 at 8 pm, The Strand Theater in Schroon Lake, in partnership with the Adirondack Film Society, will present a screening of Casablanca (1942).
Spend the evening in Schroon Lake’s historic Art Deco theater with host Jeremy Arnold, a film historian, author, audio commentator, and Turner Classic Movies contributor. Arnold has previously hosted two other classic film screenings at the Strand, Singing in the Rain in 2017 and King Kong in 2018. Guests can buy his books during the event — including The Essentials: 52 Must-See Movies and Why They Matter — and have them signed by the author.
The iconic film, considered to be one of the best to come out of Hollywood’s Golden Age, stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, and was directed by Michael Curtiz. Casablanca was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won three, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Writing.
This is the fourth year of The Strand and the Adirondack Film Society’s partnership. The last Summer Classics @ The Strand event — a July 29 screening of Buster Keaton silent comedies, accompanied by live piano scoring courtesy of Ben Model — drew a crowd of more than 100.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased with cash upon arrival.
