This Saturday, July 4th, the Ticonderoga Area Farmers Market opens for the season at their new location: 1114 Wicker Street, near the Walmart entrance, across from Christopher Chevrolet Buick.
Next Saturday, July 11th, is the Grand Opening Celebration, featuring live music entertainment (for the first time ever!) and the introduction of a new Kids’ Zone at the Ticonderoga Area Farmers Market.
The Phil Henry Acoustic Trio (PHAT), led by cinematic story-song troubadour Phil Henry, will provide the music for the Grand Opening Celebration. The band will play beginning at 11am on July 11th.
“Phil, whose family has Ticonderoga roots, presents a sweet strong voice, intricate and flawless guitar work and songs rich and sweeping”, said market advisor June Curtis. “Having music at the Farmers’ Market has been my aspiration. It will be a delight to welcome Phil and his band and a thrill to provide this first class entertainment to the community. The Market is grateful to Stewart’s Shops for supporting this endeavor.”
The Ticonderoga Area Farmers Market is adding various special events this season, including the new Kids’ Zone with activities for children to enjoy from time to time. The Kids’ Zone will debut at the Grand Opening Celebration with the Rain Barrel Decorating Project. Children are invited to help decorate with finger paints and put their artistic mark on a rain barrel, which will be on display throughout the summer and entered into the TMSP Montcalm Street Art Project in September.
The market’s new location at 1114 Wicker Street provides easy access to parking in the back, more room for the market to expand and plenty of opportunities to browse merchants, socialize and enjoy the farmers market experience. Note: Saturday, July 24, the market moves to Downtown Ticonderoga for StreetFest.
New farmers and merchants will be joining and longtime favorites returning to the market lineup this season. Local favorite Libby’s Bakery CafĂ©, who could only make one market last year, plans to attend every market this year, offering their pies, cookies, brownies, scones, croissants and other desserts. Market Manager Ann Lamb highlights other returning merchants we can look forward to this season.
“Our five veteran farmers, Bucksberry Farm, Daughters 5, Harrington Gardens, Henry Drinkwine Produce, Nadeau’s Farm and Garden, plan to return with a wide array of tasty, fresh, local vegetables and fruits,” said Market Manager Ann Lamb. “We welcome back Flack’s Country Treasures with their maple syrup, hand crafted balsam products and more. And of course I will attend with not only Willow Wood Farm’s fresh local Dexter beef but also this year we will offer fresh local pork and a promise of chicken later on this season”.
The 2015 Ticonderoga Area Farmers Market is open, weather permitting, Saturdays July 4 – October 10 from 10am – 1pm.
Farmers, vendors, businesses, local artists and organizations interested in participating in the market can contact the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce at 518-585-6619.
