Chances are, you probably go see your dentist once every six months, chat briefly before and after your exam, and then go on your way. You may see him or her regularly, but how well do you actually know your dentist?
Dr. J. Brett Ryan offers traditional services in general dentistry, along with an expanded range of procedures in oral surgery, sedation, cosmetics, endodontics, and prosthodontics, but there’s much more to him!
Here are five things you probably didn’t know about the North Country Dentist:
1. He Has Lived & Practiced Dentistry In England
Before he became the North Country Dentist, Dr. Ryan was an active-duty dentist (rank of captain) with the U.S. Air Force. His assignment was at RAF Lakenheath in the UK and, yes, he did learn to drive on the left side of the road!
2. He Is A Self-Proclaimed History Nerd
Aside from dentistry, history is one of Dr. Ryan’s greatest passions, especially the Colonial and Revolutionary War periods. One of the reasons he loves living and working in this region is because it was so important during those eras.
3. He Enjoys Locally-Sourced Foods
After living all over the world, Dr. Ryan was glad to find that the North Country is full of local foods and craft beverages that make it easy to prepare and enjoy a good meal. He especially loves supporting the community by buying from local businesses.
4. He Always Wants To Be Involved In Dentistry
Although he acknowledges that he will not be a private practitioner forever, Dr. Ryan is adamant that he always wants to be a dentist in some capacity. In fact, he sees himself becoming a professor of dentistry in the future! “Teaching has been integral in my life because my teachers are the reason I’ve come to the place I am,” Dr. Ryan says. “I want to ‘pay it forward’ by inspiring and teaching others.”
5. He Appreciates A Good Pair Of Shoes
Dr. Ryan wouldn’t describe himself as fashion-forward, and admits that his wife gets most of his clothes for him, but he does recognize the value of a good pair of shoes. “When you spend all day on your feet, having something good on them makes a world of difference,” Dr. Ryan says.
