When you think of Lake George you think of the clear waters, summer fun and the excitement & nightlife of The Village, but often we forget that Lake George is a vacation destination with a rich historic past.
A new company called Explore History Tours can show you some of the area’s dynamic past and not just walk you through it but allow you to truly experience it.
Kevin and Luisa Sherman, two Eighteenth-Century reenactors, came up with the idea for the business at the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lake George in 2007.
Luisa had volunteered to guide tours through the encampments, and was surprised how much more people wanted to learn about the battle and the history of Lake George.
The Shermans have years of experience engaging in reenactments for school and museums and at national historic sites, and decided to use this to form a new company, Explore History Tours.
The business will offer guided tours of the area’s historical sites, including Fort George, the Lake George battlefield, Fort William-Henry and the sites of former forts, military docks and encampments.
The venture is modeled on similar businesses who operate in places like Philadelphia and Colonial Williamsburg.
