There is a new, eco-friendly form of transportation coming to a couple popular tourist destinations in the Adirondacks this summer. The Adirondack Pedal Cab Company will begin their inaugural season in two Adirondack hot spots, North Creek and Lake George.
Pedal cabs began to gain popularity in the U.S. as early as 1962 at the World’s Fair in Seattle, Washington. Today, thousands of pedal cabs operate in the streets of major cities across the country and are quite popular across the world.
Pedal cabs (also known as cycle rickshaws, pedicabs, or bike taxis) are changing the world of transportation by offering an eco-friendly commute that can be a fun and exciting way to arrive at your destination.
The company will operate between 10 and 20 cycle rickshaws and the service will rely on voluntary donations. A ride will cost you whatever you think it was worth, just tip your driver $5, $10 or $20 when you’ve arrived at your destination.
The company is also going to offer an app for smartphones, which will allow you to track the position of the pedal cabs, connect with a driver, and set up a ride. What a great idea!
The only form of pedicabs I have seen in the area were at Saratoga Race Track last summer, providing rides from your parking place to the front gate.
This will be a great option for getting around the village of Lake George this summer.. and hey, the ‘cabbies’ will get some great exercise!
