Chances are, you’ve probably heard of March Madness and its bracket challenge. If not, the short version is that the 64 best NCAA Men’s Division I college basketball teams are ranked and arranged in a bracket that shows two teams entering a game and only one moving on to the next round. Once the top 64 teams are announced and ranked, fans can fill out their own version of the bracket, effectively predicting who is going to win each game. If someone accurately predicts every single game in all six rounds (which is incredibly rare), they win the bracket challenge.
How does this relate to the Adirondacks, you’re probably wondering? In the spirit of March Madness, Outside Magazine has recently begun May Madness, but this time it isn’t an NCAA Championship that’s on the line – it’s the coveted distinction of being “America’s Best Town.”
East Division Bracket – OutsideOnline.com
Outside Magazine, with some help from its Instagram followers, has chosen 16 towns from each of four regions (West, East, Midwest, and South) for a total of 64 towns in Round 1. The Adirondacks’ own Lake Placid has been included as the #5 seed in the East division and is going up against the #12 seed Lebanon, NH!
You may be wondering how towns can advance in this bracket challenge, since they can’t play games against each other like the teams in the NCAA Tournament. That’s where you come in! You have until May 8 to vote online for your favorite town, and those that get the most votes will advance to Round 2.
Should Lake Placid defeat Lebanon, it will then take on the winner of Brattleboro, VT vs. Elmira, NY. Voting for that round will take place between May 9-13. In total, there will be 6 rounds in the competition with the Best Town in America being announced on June 5.
We love Lake Placid and we know you do too, so get online and vote to make sure that the town we all know is the best wins the crown!
