Editor’s Note 12/8/15: Lotus Loves Literacy has made the decision to postpone the Interscholastic Spelling Bee until January 2016.
As part of its charitable efforts, The Lotus Group of Companies has invited students from local districts to participate in an Interscholastic Spelling Bee!
The Bee will be held on December 12th from 10:00am – 5:00pm at the Warrensburg Jr./Sr. High School. There will be four age categories so that students in grades 3-12 can participate.
Lotus Loves Literacy, The Lotus Group’s charitable arm, has invited the districts from Johnsburg, North Warren, Warrensburg, Bolton, and Lake George to participate in this year’s event, with a goal of having 3 or 4 students represent their school in each category.
The rules, officiating, and style of the event will be modeled after the Scripps National Spelling Bee, a nationwide competition that takes place each year. There will be one winner chosen from each category, and that individual will win a prize. The prizes for each age group are as follows:
- Grades 3 & 4: Kindle
- Grades 5 & 6: iPad
- Grades 7 – 9: $100 Barnes and Noble Gift Card & Laptop
- Grades 10-12: $500 Scholarship from Lotus Loves Literacy
Proceeds from the Bee will be divided evenly between participating districts, and a scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior with the highest average in English/Literature. Lotus Loves Literacy will also be donating 10% of the funds to Christmas in Warrensburgh, the town-wide holiday celebration that takes place each year.
