We know that the Adirondacks is the place to be when looking to escape into the outdoors, but how does it compare to the rest of the country? The Adirondacks is a great place to not just live in and visit, but to experience, making it an ideal place to share an adventure with old college friends.
Although both Denver, Colorado and Austin, Texas have mountains to hike, the Adirondacks ranked above these two popular cities due in part to its ample hiking trails and 46 High Peaks. For water lovers, there are more than 3,000 lakes and ponds, and 30,000 miles of rivers and streams to explore, and the area’s many guided whitewater rafting outfitters are a great option for groups!
However, as nice as summer is, it’s common knowledge that winter transforms the Adirondacks into a playground for snowmobilers, skiers and snowboarders. And for truly experienced outdoor adventurers, there’s winter camping and hiking too. The region has long been recognized worldwide as a premier spot for winter sports and activities, ever since Lake Placid hosted the 1932 Winter Olympics. Did you know you can go bobsledding at the Lake Placid Olympic Sports Complex?
Another reason the Adirondacks ranked over the big cities of San Diego and Montreal? Vacation rentals! There are house rentals available throughout the region, providing an affordable lodging option when you split the cost as a group.
Sorry Denver, Austin, San Diego and Montreal — There’s always next year!
