The snow may be melting in the Adirondacks, but sap is starting to drip from maple trees. If you visit the Adirondacks this weekend, you’ll have a chance to experience some early maple sugaring season events and even more fun outdoor activities!
Fun for the Kids
Winter carnival season is nearly over, so if you’re looking for one more in the Adirondacks, then bring the family to Ticonderoga this Saturday for the End of Winter Carnival! Some of the highlights this year will include carnival games, a bouncy house, music, crafts, races, and more activities.
Gore Mountain is hosting a special Represent & Ride Free event this Sunday from 12:00pm-1:30pm. All kids ages 7-12 with a junior ticket for 3/5/2017 or a junior season pass, as well as a Gore Mountain sticker on their helmet, can stop by the Gore Mountain tent and photo booth to receive a free junior lift ticket valid through Closing Day of Spring 2017.
Maple Season Has Begun
Bring your snowshoes to Paul Smith’s College VIC this weekend for their March Interpretive Maple Tours. Take a walk to their sugar shack and learn more about maple sugaring season. A $10 donation is suggested.
During each weekend in March, The Wild Center will celebrate all things maple! Join The Wild Center this weekend for tours of the sugar shack, a maple quest, maple treats in the cafe, and more.
Feeling hungry for some maple syrup? Attend the Pancake Breakfast and Maple Festival on Sunday at Up Yonda Farm in Bolton Landing. There will be a hearty breakfast and guided tours of the sugarhouse.
The 2017 XC Junior National Championships are scheduled to take place in the Lake Placid Region from March 3-11. During this event, our future Olympic medalists will showcase their skills and talents at various venues.
The Schroon Lake Fish and Game Club is prepared to host their 25th annual Ice Fishing Derby this weekend! All fish must be caught in Schroon Lake, and registration for adults and kids is $15 each.
Outdoor Entertainment for Women
If you are a woman who enjoys skiing, then sign up for Lapland Lake Cross Country Ski Center’s Lapland Ladies Love to Ski event on Saturday. This program is for women and taught by women, and it is designed for beginner to intermediate level skiers.
Pok-O-MacCready Outdoor Education Center will host a Women’s Day Retreat this Saturday from 9:00am-4:30pm. The event will feature indoor and outdoor winter activities, but registration closes on Wednesday, March 1.
