Veterans Day is on Saturday, November 11, and if you’ve been searching for things to do this weekend, then look no further than the Adirondacks. There will be a variety of events going on in commemoration of Veterans Day, as well as fun activities and more entertainment. Below, you’ll find some of the event highlights for this coming weekend in the ADK.
Veterans Day Events
Community Free Day at The Wild Center – Saturday, November 11
In honor of Veterans Day, The Wild Center in Tupper Lake will be offering free admission! Although the Wild Walk is closed for the year, you can still explore the museum, see the animals, and enjoy activities. The museum will be open from 10:00am-5:00pm.
Professor Louie and the Crowmatix Returns – Saturday, November 11
Get ready for the return of Professor Louie and the Crowmatix at the Tannery Pond Community Center in North Creek on Saturday. The concert will feature a mixture of rock, blues, gospel, and American roots music. Tickets will be $20 at the door.
Veterans Memorial Service in Hague – Saturday, November 11
On Veterans Day, a special service will be held at Veterans Park in Hague at 11:00am. All are welcome to attend.
Free Fishing Day in NY State – Saturday, November 11
NY State has named Veterans Day as one of their Free Fishing Days. On this day, anyone can fish the fresh waters of NY State and the Adirondacks without a fishing license. All other fishing regulations will still apply.
Top Theatrical Productions
Adirondack Stage Rats at BluSeed Studios – Thursday, November 9 – Sunday, November 12
The Adirondack Stage Rats have joined up with BluSeed Studios to present “Sylvia,” a play by A. R. Gurney. This funny yet profound production will be performed at 8:00pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and 5:00pm on Sunday.
Starring kids from around the area, this special adaption of “Peter Pan” tells the story of the Darling family children and the titular hero. The play will be performed on Thursday at 7:00pm, Friday at 7:00pm, and Saturday at 2:00pm at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts.
Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre – Friday, November 10
The Inn at Speculator will host a fun Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre on Friday from 6:30pm-9:30pm. Enjoy a delicious buffet dinner and help solve a hilarious whodunit; the mystery will focus on the “Tanner-Pond Wedding.” The $25 cost includes the play and dinner.

IBSF Bobsled & Skeleton Competition – Thursday, November 9 & Friday, November 10
Plan a trip to the Olympic Sports Complex in Lake Placid in time for the IBSF Bobsled & Skeleton Competition. Come cheer on Team USA as they compete ahead of the 2018 Winter Olympics. Ticket prices vary.
Scenic Fall Horse and Wagon Rides – Saturday, November 11
This Saturday, head over to Garnet Hill Lodge in North River and experience a scenic horse and wagon ride. Rides will begin at the Tea House Cottage and brings passengers through the wooded trails around the lodge. Tickets will be available for purchase at the front desk.
Lake Champlain Appaloosa Club Fall Horse Tack Auction – Sunday, November 12
Visit Altona in the northern reaches of the Adirondacks and check out the Lake Champlain Appaloosa Club Fall Horse Tack Auction at the Rainbow Banquet Hall. Bidding will begin at noon, and some of the great auction items will include winter blankets, show & work equipment, holiday gift items, and more.
