It’s a New Year’s Day tradition in the Adirondacks – First Day Hikes! The DEC has announced four in the region for 2020, so strap on your hiking boots or snowshoes, put on a warm coat, and get ready to welcome the New Year with exercise and fresh air.

Here are the hikes:
- First Day Hike at Prospect Mountain
- First Day Hike at Paul Smith’s
- First Day Hike at AIC
- First Day Hike at Goodnow Mountain
Check out the details of each to determine which one is right for you; the Goodnow Mountain hike is the most challenging. Those interested need to register for the hikes – contact information is included with each event listing.
The New Year’s Day guided hikes are free, although you may need to bring or rent snowshoes. Hikers should come prepared for the winter conditions with layered clothing, water, sunglasses, hats, gloves or mittens, and appropriate footwear.
Each hiker gets a pair of Adventure NY branded gloves and a First Day Hike sticker. Guided hikes will be cancelled if the weather demands, and participants will be notified if it’s cancelled by December 31st.
Happy hiking, and happy New Year!
