Take the plunge into Lake Champlain and experience the lake like never before. Run in conjunction with the Vermont Division of Historic Preservation and the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, amateur divers can now dive into the waters to view several shipwrecks anytime between May and October. As of now, there are five wrecks in which divers are able to explore in the lake. The other five shipwrecks protected by the Underwater Historical Preserve are closed off to recreational divers due to their fragility.
The five shipwrecks available for divers to observe underwater are:
- A.R. Noyes?
- General Butler
- O.J. Walker
- The Phoenix
- A Horse Ferry
It’s imperative that divers who choose to explore these shipwrecks remember that the preservation of the wrecks, along with diver safety, is the responsibility of the diver.
