Those of us who live and vacation in the Adirondacks know how incredibly special and beautiful the Park is. One of the best aspects of the ADK is the “undiscovered” feel of the region, thanks in part to the “forever wild” clause, which protects the land and wildlife, and also partially due to the Park’s off-the-beaten-path location.
These attributes have allowed the region to keep its wilderness quality, preserved some Gilded Age glamor through the remaining Great Camps, and allowed local communities and businesses to retain their charm. For these reasons and more, Vogue has named the region as the “ultimate New York getaway.”
In a recent travel article, Vogue stated that the Adirondack Park has retained “an undiscovered quality that their trendy Catskills neighbor to the south has arguably lost.” We’d have to agree! This region is home to countless lakes, ponds, rivers, and peaks where adventure awaits, as well as small towns and villages to explore.
The article highlighted some of the best places to stay and check out when visiting, including the Olympic Jumping Complex in the Village of Lake Placid and an array of restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, and locally-owned stores.
Of course, Vogue also praised the jewel of the Adirondack crown: the incredible hiking in the region. The author of the piece specifically mentioned Roaring Brook Falls as a good choice for beginners, Mt. Van Hoevenberg as a more strenuous option, and the High Peaks as the ultimate challenge.
The Adirondacks deserve this recognition and much more, and we are proud that the area has been lauded so highly by Vogue! Click the link below to see more brag-worthy Adirondack accolades and awards from websites, magazines, and news outlets.
