With some of the most impressive foliage in the Northeast, the Adirondacks are a prime destination for visitors and locals alike with a desire to view some of the most breathtaking vistas from the areas numerous mountains. But gazing at leaves is not all that there is to do in the region - check out the infinite possibilities of fun that can be had on a fall visit to the Adirondacks:

Before the mouthwatering, however, a little manual labor is needed - take the family to an orchard and pick for a day. It will be a fun, engaging experience for all ages, and a great family memory. Take a Hike, Ride your Bike!

Refreshing exercise and clear mountain air can do good for the body. Check out these hiking trails:

  • Washington Park
  • And these are only a few...

Some of these trails can be biked, but for a true bike trail, ride the Warren County Bike Trail from Lake George to Glens Falls, or the Feeder Canal trail from Glens Falls to Fort Edward; or if you are up to it pedal the whole way! Check out more trails and several helpful hints.

Want the scenery, but feeling tuckered out? Sit down and relax on a Gondola ride up Gore Mountain in North Creek or Whiteface in Lake Placid. This is a great alternative for young children, the out-of-shape, and anyone else who cannot make an exhausting hike or bike.

From the Adirondack Balloon Festival in Glens Falls, featuring the flight of nearly 100 hot-air balloons, and the Oktoberfest in Lake George, with enough beer and sauerkraut for every visitor, to the Saratoga Fall Festival, with crafts, kids activities, and a whole day of autumn-themed celebration - you are destined without fail to find an entertaining day at one of the local festivities!

With several Farmers' Markets in the area, you will find everything on your grocery list in superior quality, plus most of the products sold (including meat, jams, cheese, and more) are Certified Naturally Grown or Organic, or both. Interact directly with your vendors and find unique products for a shopping experience that is personal and enjoyable, and in all ways unlike going to the supermarket.

Also, for the responsible in the group, wineries in the area hold frequent tasting's throughout the year, and even without ceremony will usually let enthusiasts come and sample their fine Adirondack wines and champagnes. Visit Johnston's Winery Inc. in Galway or either of Lake Placid's well-known Goose Watch and Swedish Hill Wineries. In the Lake George area? Stop by the Adirondack Winery.

Who is afraid of getting a little wet? The Hudson River's Adirondack path is an exciting and heart-pumping ride for rafters. Adirondack Whitewater Rafting allows for the adventurous among us experience a thrilling journey through some of the wildest rapids in New York. However, have a tint of caution - the courses of the Adirondack Whitewater Rafting trips are classified as Class IV and V, neither of which are beginner-friendly.

For less calamity and more calm, visit one of the region's multitudes of beautiful cascading waterfalls. These areas allow for lovely views, a great picnicking area, and some even have small, private pool areas for a romantic getaway or fun family swim.
