Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington NY is a well-known Adirondack mountain peak just 13 miles away from Lake Placid NY! As the fifth highest mountain in New York State, you'll find some of the best downhill skiing and snowboarding in the Adirondacks.
Whiteface is known by Adirondack skiers for having the highest vertical drop in the eastern United States! Whiteface has over 76 downhill ski trails covering 18 miles of ski terrain.Whiteface Mountain has trails for all levels, from 35 acres of expert extreme adventure terrain called the "Slides", to Learn to Ski Programs at the Kids Kampus for beginners. Downhill ski trails at Whiteface are easily accessible by 8 chair lifts, a conveyor lift and a gondola.
At Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid NY, you'll ski the same slopes as winter Olympic games champions! American favorite Phil Mahre won a silver medal at Whiteface Mountain during the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics. As a result of its Olympic Hhstory and challenging slopes, Whiteface Mountain still attracts thousands of skiers to Lake Placid each year.

You can still take a ride on the Cloudspitter Gondola from the base of the mountain to the peak of Little Whiteface for spectacular views of Lake Placid, New York. Whiteface Mountain is also the only Adirondack High Peak with a road up the mountain. The Veteran's Memorial Highway takes you almost to the very top of the mountain for great Adirondack scenery.
