For a village with a population of less than 400, Speculator certainly has a great deal to offer all year long. If you're passionate about the outdoors, you'll find there are plenty of water-based activities available in Speculator, as it is on the shores of Lake Pleasant and just miles from Sacandaga Lake. Canoeing, kayaking, and fishing are among the most popular things to do for those spending time here. In the fall, the foliage is spectacular, making it the perfect season for a scenic hike.
Snowmobiling is the top activity during winters in Speculator, and Hamilton County features more than 750 miles of groomed trails.

Speculator is home to a quirky department store, a sporting goods store, and a hardware store. There is also a handful of restaurants for you to choose from with cuisine including pizza, burgers, steak, seafood, and baked goods.
Remarkably, Speculator has seen its share of sports legends, considering its size and location in the Adirondacks. Heavyweight boxers Max Schmeling, Gene Tunney, and Max Baer all trained in Speculator during the 1920’s and 1930’s.
