About this event

Create a full story in an afternoon! This workshop is for every writer, reader, and film-lover who wants to peel back the layers of story to study the bones beneath. We will uncover the motivations of characters and walk the beats of a plot—all within the historic and inspiring Hyde Museum. In this interactive workshop, participants will move and write so wear your walking shoes and bring a portable notebook and pen. You will leave the workshop with a greater understanding of what makes your favorite movies and books so compelling. This workshop is designed for writers of fiction and non-fiction, as well as for readers and film-lovers. You’ll never read a book or watch a movie the same way again.

Emma Kress (she/her) is a young-adult novelist and teacher. Her debut young-adult novel Dangerous Play (Macmillan) is an action and sports thriller about a team of field-hockey players who become vigilantes. A graduate of Vassar College and Columbia University’s Teachers College, she also earned her MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults at the Vermont College of Fine Arts. She lives in Saratoga Springs, NY with her family.
