🌲 Where Nature and Creativity Meet

Step off the beaten path and into a celebration of wild beauty, Adirondack tradition, and local craftsmanship at the Woods Walk & Artisan Market. Hosted at Martin’s Lumber in Thurman, this family-friendly event invites you to explore scenic forest trails, meet talented makers, and connect with nature in a meaningful, memorable way.

🌿 Explore the Trails

Guided Nature Walks take place throughout the day and offer a hands-on look at the forest's living wonders:

  • Mushroom Walks with Ed Braley – 10:30AM, 12:30PM, and 2:30PM
Certified in wild mushroom safety and a member of the Chefs Consortium, Ed leads participants through the woods to identify local fungi and discuss their characteristics, life cycles, and culinary or medicinal uses. Back at the barn, Ed offers handmade tinctures, salts, and original artwork.
  • Herb & Plant Walks – 10AM, 12PM, and 2PM
Learn to identify common wild plants and how they can be used for nutrition and natural wellness.
  • Self-Guided Tree Walk to the Clearing
Follow interpretive signs created by Gary Martin to discover native trees as you make your way to a peaceful forest clearing—now home to something extraordinary...

🏕️ A Piece of Adirondack History

At the end of the trail, you’ll discover the newly relocated Crane Mountain Fire Tower Cab—a genuine piece of Adirondack fire-spotting history.
Explore the cab, view registers from the early 1900’s and interpretive displays.
Relax by the campfire and make s’mores with friends.
Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the clearing.
Chat with Gary Martin, the steward of the land and your guide to the forest’s secrets.
