Highbrow in the High Peaks The Adirondacks boomed in the Victorian Era. The region had found incredible success in the mining and logging industries in the late 1700's and early 1800's, from the southern points along the Hudson River on up to the wide expanse of Lake Champlain. As hard work brought a surge to the economy, so too did the arrival of tourism. The residents of New York City discovered that they could escape upstate to a hunting and camping paradise. These economic triumphs led to the development of beautiful Victorian homes and magnificent Adirondack Great Camps. |
