Porter Mountain

Keene, NY 12942

Overview

Porter Mountain is the 38th highest of the 46 High Peaks of the Adirondacks, with an elevation of 4,059 ft.

Porter Mountain is a long ridge stretching from near Keene Valley almost to Cascade Pass. The trail gets pretty bumpy, so be careful and make sure you're wearing appropriate footwear

Porter Mountain is named after Noah Porter, later president of Yale University and one of the first people to climb it.

There are many amazing open areas and viewpoints along this ridge, and the summit itself has a nice open area. Many great spots to just hang out for a little while and rest.

There are a couple of route options for Porter Mountain:

*Trail from NY-73/Cascade Trailhead: This is the most popular route. If you hike up Cascade (about 2.4 miles one way), then branch out to Porter (about 0.8 miles more), the route is about 6.4 miles roundtrip.

*Trail from Marcy Field Trailhead at the base of Blueberry Mountain: This is a separate, longer route, that's going to be about 7.6 to 8 miles roundtrip. The trail climbs over Blueberry Mountain, then connects to the ridge trail that leads to Porter Mountain.
