Mount Severance tops out at 1,693 feet and features terrific views. It can be accessed one half-mile south of the intersection between Route 74 and State Route 9 in Schroon Lake, NY.
This 1.2 mile hike is easy-moderate in terms of difficulty and features views of Schroon Lake and Paradox Lake.
The hike begins with a walk through some tunnels located underneath I-87. At the end of the tunnels, you'll spot the trailhead and register.
From the trail register, the rest of the trail is well-marked and appropriate for hikers of all ages. The steepest part of the hike is about 3/4 mile from the start.
The first outlook provides a panoramic view of the Schroon Lake region. Nearby, the second outlook features Paradox Lake and the surrounding area.
At 2.4 miles round trip, the hike can be done in less than two hours.
