Adirondack Attractions: Pottersville, NY

If you are looking for adventure then the area around Pottersville New York is the place to be. Located in the heart of the Adirondacks 23 miles from Lake George and 90 miles from Lake Placid, this region has plenty of things to keep even the most active person happy. The small historic town of Pottersville has great bed and breakfast retreats that are great for a quick get away or a place to bring the whole family. Many of these family run businesses offer affordable lodging and great food.

One of the main attractions this area has to offer is Natural Stone Bridge & Caves Park. Tours are available daily, you may choose the self guided tour or the adventure tour or during winter months, a snowshoe tour. The adventure is offered to those thirteen and over and requires crawling and getting a bit dirty. The end of the tour allows you to float in the water in one of the caves and get clean while enjoying the scenery of this natural wonder. This is a great tour that comes with all the equipment you will need for enjoying this exciting expierence. Other tours are also available that are shorter and require less walking. This natural wonder is the largest marble cave entrance in the east and should not be missed. Strollers are not permitted because of the rough terrain, however backpacks are available for rent for small children. Night tours and winter tours are also available, call for information in severe weather. This natural wonder is family operated and has been run by the same family for two hundred years. Food is available on site along with a gift shop. Children will enjoy mining for their own gems and taking home their finds.

Railroads On Parade is another fantastic attraction in the Pottersville area. This five thousand square foot museum houses miniature trains that everyone in the family will love. The displays show many types of trains, trolleys and other things pertaining to railroads that should not be missed. They are closed for a few months in the winter so calling for availability is advisable.

Several campgrounds exist in the area along with rental cabins. fishing, hiking, outdoor picnics and golf are just a few of the many things available to do in the Pottersville area in the summer. Winter sports include cross country skiing, snowshoeing along with snowmobiling. This is yet another place in the Adirondacks that should Not be missed!
