Stillwater Mountain is located in the town of Webb, Herkimer County, on Big Moose Road. It overlooks the Stillwater Reservoir and is an easy hike up to the top.
The Stillwater Fire Tower, on top of Stillwater Mountain, was reconstructed in 2016. It's only a one-mile hike up to the top to get to the fire tower. From the fire tower, you can see views of the High Peaks, Tug Hill, and Five Ponds Wilderness.
Please note, the tower and surrounding Big Moose Tract Conservation Easement are closed from October 13 - December 20, 2020.
To get to the mountain by car from Old Forge and Inlet area on Route 28, turn onto the Big Moose Road at Eagle Bay. The tower trailhead is about 8 miles from Big Moose Station.
From Lowville and Route 12, follow the Number Four Road, to the Stillwater Road, and then south on Big Moose Road for two miles.
