Tenant Creek Falls

Hope, NY

Overview

Tenant Creek Falls is a .9-mile hike through hemlock groves, mature open hardwoods, and scattered very large white pine.

Please note: This trail was rerouted in July of 2015.

From Main Street in Northville, travel east on Reed Street, and continue north where it becomes Old State Road. Proceed until you reach Hope Falls Road on your right, and make that turn.

Off of Hope Falls Road, about .4 miles from the end of the road, is a newly constructed parking area right by the trailhead. You can no longer park at the old parking lot at the very end of Hope Falls Road, which is on private property.

The Tenant Creek Falls Trail now leaves from the back of the new parking area. There are three falls on Tenant Creek. The trail isn't marked beyond the first, but there is an easily followable herd path along the creek leading to the second and third falls.

this is a wonderful hike to 3 waterfalls don't pass this gem up

The trial head area is a great improvement over the old site, with plenty parking, and a new privy. The trail itself requires a lot more effort than the old, due to elevation changes. However, I do miss the sight and sounds of the creek. An added marker or two where the trail does a 180 near the stream crossing would help. Overall, well worth the trip.

My wife & l visited the three falls (the second of which has two sections) yesterday. I had visited them several times over the years, before the recent re-route referenced by the other review. The new starting section goes up & down over the NW shoulder of Rand Mtn., leading almost directly to the first falls. This makes the hike more difficult than before, although the new section of trail is smooth going, without the protruding rocks & tree roots that fill the creek-side sections.

The trail to Tenant Creek Falls (often erroneously called Hope Falls) is no longer in this location. The trail was moved by the DEC in July of 2015. Access is still on Hope Falls Round but is not at the road's end. Access is from the rear of a newly created parking area 0.4 miles from the end of the road. Parking is no longer allowed at the end of Hope Falls Road.
