Most of us are familiar with that dreaded moment when our dentist tells us we need to get a crown or a bridge to cover a damaged tooth or fill a gap. We know how long it takes to get the prosthesis put in place and how frustrating it can be if it doesn’t fit quite right or doesn’t match the color of our other teeth.
Fortunately for those with crowns and bridges in their futures, Dr. J. Brett Ryan – The North Country Dentist – uses new technology to take time and irritation out of the process!
Dr. Ryan’s practice uses a computer to design and fabricate all patients’ crowns and bridges. When impressions are taken, they are immediately shipped off to a lab where the model of the patient’s teeth is scanned and designed virtually, making an identical match.
The crowns and bridges are then milled out of a solid piece of zirconium (think cubic zirconia) and are stained to look exactly like the patient’s existing teeth.
Once the patient comes in to have the prosthesis cemented in place, they’ll find that Dr. Ryan has cut down the time of the procedure by more than half! While it used to take 30 minutes to properly affix a crown or bridge, it now takes approximately 10.
Dr. Ryan also uses the most current generation of cements, which bonds to patients’ teeth and increases the ease of the procedure and the life of the crowns and bridges.
