Lonely Planet explores the United States each year and picks out 10 of the country’s must-see travel destinations to include in their Best In The U.S. Rankings.
For 2017, Lonely Planet selected the Adirondacks as their pick for the 7th must-see destination in the U.S. Although Asheville, NC, Montana’s Flathead Valley, and four other places were listed above the Adirondacks, people who have visited the region know why it’s in the Top 10.
Not only is the Adirondack Park home to the 46 High Peaks, but you’ll also find the Queen of American Lakes – Lake George. New visitors will discover a nearly endless number of trails for hiking, biking, and other outdoor activities. Best of all, there is always something to do in the Adirondacks year-round.
Take this past winter season for example. People interested in a true Adirondack adventure could choose to visit Lake Placid, a Top 10 Ski Town, the impressive Gore Mountain, or any number of the region’s small town communities.
While other areas in Lonely Planet’s Best In The U.S. Rankings also feature mountain ranges and lakes, the Adirondacks has a rich history. From the Great Camps to the region’s historic forts and sites, there is a lot for visitors to discover.
Compared to the rest of the Top 10 must-see destinations, the Adirondack Park is truly in a league of its own.
