There are over 10,000 state parks in the country, and a popular travel and culture website recently nailed down the best 30. Not surprisingly, the Adirondacks made the cut.
The Adirondack Park was named one of the top 30 state parks out of the existing 10,234 state parks in the country by Thrillist – that’s within the top 1%! The article highlights the fact that nearly half the land in the Park is designated forever wild, and there are approximately 2,000 miles of hiking trails, 3,000 lakes, and 30,000 miles of rivers.
The 6.1-million acre Adirondack Park is not only one of the best state parks in the US, but it’s also the largest. It’s bigger than the Grand Canyon (1,218,375 million acres), Glacier (1 million acres), Yosemite (750,000 acres), and the Great Smoky Mountains (522,427 acres) National Parks combined.
Thrillist notes that the 63 national parks tend to get all the credit, while the state parks are underrated jewels right in our own backyards. We couldn’t agree more!
