Pack up the kids and head out for Thurman, just 20 minutes from Lake George Village. This annual event showcases working farms, some dating back 200 years, with vintage farm implements, and some newer operations that boast modern structures with shiny stainless steel hi-tech equipment. Find and print your directory online, or pick up one in town, to self-guide to nine unique sites for free open houses with ag-citing activities for all ages. Have your directory punched at each farm, for a chance to win 1 of two baskets full of Thurman goodies. Start your tour early for a farm-to-fork breakfast sandwich, starting at 9 a.m then from noon to 2, savor a barn-loft country lunch. Shop for all natural cheese products, jams, jellies, veggies and meats and artisans’ wares. See the punkin-chunkin’ trebuchet, take wagon rides, taste maple, cheese and menu items. Explore a goat and sheep dairy farm; enjoy kids’ activity; see a Dutch timber frame barn being built; see a demo about turning flax to linen; learn about sugaring, mushrooms, medicinal plants, bee keeping and enjoy country friendliness at its best. Your safety is very important to us. Please bring a mask, as CDC Covid protocols will be observed. See specifics and updates at visitthurman.com/fall-farm-tour. This event, hosted by Thurman Community Association, is made possible by Warren County occupancy taxes.
